Qatar is holding the upcoming 2022 World Cup from November 21 to December 18, with 32 teams competing in eight groups. The exact schedule will be released following the finals draw in April 2022. Due to the summer heat, the tournament will take place in Qatar in winter, instead.

These are the venues hosting the eight groups:

  • Lusail Stadium

  • Al Bayt Stadium

  • Khalifa Stadium

  • Al Janoub Stadium

  • Education City Stadium

  • Al Thumama Stadium

  • Ras Aba Abood Stadium

  • Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium

When and where will the final match kick-off?

The tournament begins on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor, with a match featuring the host nation. The final match will take place on Sunday, December 18 at Doha's Lusail Stadium. The arena will serve as the focal point of Lusail, a brand-new, cutting-edge metropolis created with peoples' needs in mind. It is a well-planned community that includes a marina, business areas, an entertainment hub, houses, shopping malls, golf courses, schools, medical centres, and mosques. It has a population of roughly 200,000 people.

The Lusail Stadium will write a new chapter in Qatar's history and will take sports venues to new heights while paying homage to the country's rich history. The iconic stadium is about 15 kilometres north of Doha and you can very easily reach it by metro. The Stadium will undoubtedly offer a feast of football for fans from all around the world in 2022, with a design that references some beautiful motifs seen on bowls throughout the Arab world.

It will be the largest stadium in the Gulf by capacity, and its legacy will see the infrastructure of the stadium converted into a communal space with schools, stores, cafés, sporting facilities, and health clinics. Once the finals are over, Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) aims to remove and donate the majority of the stadium's 80, 000 seats to sporting projects to disseminate the legacy of Qatar 2022 around the world.

A memorable moment

This will be the 22nd FIFA World Cup, following the previous 2018 tournament which took place in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018. The championships were held for the ninth time in Europe. However, it was the first time they were hosted in Eastern Europe. It was the most expensive World Cup to date, with an estimated cost of nearly $14.2 billion. No wonder why all eyes are on Qatar at the moment. The tournament phase featured 32 teams, 31 of which qualified through competitions, with Russia qualifying automatically as the host nation. Twenty of the 32 had previously competed in the 2014 World Cup. Plus, Iceland and Panama were making their World Cup debuts.

There were a total of 64 matches in 12 locations throughout 11 cities. The defending champions, Germany, were eliminated from the group stage. Russia, the host nation, left the stage in the quarter-finals. On July 15, France faced Croatia in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, which is of similar capacity to the Lusail stadium in Qatar. The match ended in a 4–2 victory for France, giving them their second World Cup win.

Croatian Luka Modric won the best player in the competition, with the Golden Ball award. Moreover, Harry Kane of England won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in the competition. Thibaut Courtois of Belgium earned the Golden Glove, the goalkeeper award with the cleanest sheets. Around three million people watched the games during this tournament.
