The satisfaction the victory in Bristol brought was immense. After three games without a win not only did the Royals dispatch Bristol. They also kept a confidence-boosting clean sheet and suddenly things look rosy once again.
Reading are consolidating 5th place in the Championship but a totally different opposition comes to Berkshire this weekend as Reading face Middlesbrough. Boro are always a tough outfit and with Neil Warnock at the helm, they’ve toughened up as a crew.. They are in eighth place and have their own play-off ambitions, they know a good late run can earn them a cherished spot in the promised land of the playoffs.
The gap between the sides is eight points, but Reading need not look down as they are only three points off third spot, occupied by the consistent Watford.
Perhaps now is the right time to face Middlesbrough, whose form has wobbled of late. They have only won one of their last six league games, and that win came in their last outing at home to Huddersfield. V In that game, Boro enjoyed the lion share of possession but won despite being reduced to 10 men and if that does not summarise a typical Neil Warnock side, we don’t know what else will. Winning in adversity seems to be his way, as his Boro side know they are never beaten when down.
Contrastingly, Reading dominated in their win over Bristol and two first half goals were enough to see the Robins off. Lucas Joao grabbed his 20th goal across all competitions and the slick Michael Morrison ensured the points three minutes later. The goals have come from everywhere this season, and it’s always positive to see your defenders on the score sheet while also managing a clean sheet.
We’re confident that Reading can bring in three points today, though it won’t be easy and we do not expect many goals. We’re going for a correct score prediction: Reading 1-0 Middlesbrough, priced up at 27/5 or 6.4.
Oh, and that goal scorer: Lucas Joao, of course who is chalked up at 17/4 or 5.25 to score first!
