How The Draw Works
A total of 32 national teams will participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Of those, 13 have already qualified. Qatar gets automatic qualification as the host nation. So far, ten teams have qualified as winners of their qualification group, and Brazil and Argentina have qualified through the separate CONMEBOL qualification system.
The Group Draw
Teams will be seeded into four pots based on their FIFA rankings, from highest to lowest. One team from each pot will be drawn for each group, from A to H. Once the groups have been drawn, match dates and times will be allocated.
Group Stages
The group stages begin on November 21st 2022. Each team will play all the group members in a single-game format. Once all the matches have been played, the top two teams in each group will progress to the knockout stage.
Knockout Stages
The winning team from Group C will face the runner-up from Group D in the first round of the knockout stages, the round of 16. The runner-up from Group C will also face the winner from Group D. The game winners will then proceed to the quarter-finals, and it continues that way to the final.
